AN ACT relating to public highways; directing the Department of Transportation, Clark County and the City of Las Vegas to conduct certain assessments concerning the need for the abatement of traffic noise; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

   Section 1. 1.  The Department of Transportation and Clark County

 shall conduct a study of the abatement of traffic noise in Clark County.

 The study must include an assessment of the need for the abatement of

 traffic noise on both sides of U.S. Interstate No. 515 from Charleston

 Boulevard to Russell Road.

   2.  The Department of Transportation and the City of Las Vegas shall

 conduct an assessment of the need for the abatement of traffic noise along

 those sections of U.S. Interstate No. 515 and U.S. Interstate No. 95 that lie

 within the boundaries of the City of Las Vegas.

   3.  The results of the assessments conducted pursuant to this section

 must be reported to the Director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau on or

 before February 1, 2003, for transmittal to the 72nd session of the

 Legislature. Each report must include a plan for the abatement of traffic

 noise, including the construction of sound barriers where required.

   Sec. 2.  This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
