STANDING RULES AS PRESENTED TO THE COMMITTEE.
ASSEMBLYMAN REGAN SECONDED THE MOTION.
THE MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY BY THOSE PRESENT.
Mr. Fred Welden, Chief Deputy Research Director, presented an Issue Brief, (Exhibit D), prepared by Caren Jenkins, Senior Research Analyst and Mr. Welden. He discussed measures considered by the committee last session and recommendations and interim studies the committee could consider this session.
The Research Division of the Legislative Counsel Bureau would be most happy to assist members of the legislature in any way they could, stated Mr. Welden. He said research offices could be found in Room 320 and 209 of the legislative building and in the Sedway building.
Chairman Freeman praised the LCB staff for their availability and willingness to help.
Assemblyman Schneider asked if the nuclear waste bills would come to the Natural Resources Committee. Mr. Welden said he would check but felt they would come to the Natural Resource committee.
Mr. Ernaut thanked Mr. Welden for the Issue Brief and wanted to know if the Supreme Court would hear the appeal of Judge Handelsman's decision on inter-basin water transfer. He felt it would have extreme ramifications on this committee. Mr. Welden said the Division of Water Resources and the Attorney General's office had filed a response to the decision. He did state water rights and water conservation measures were not referred to Natural Resources but to Government Affairs.
On many issues the Government Affairs committee and Natural Resources committee overlap, stated Mrs. Freeman. She also said
with the new administration in Washington D.C. the committee would need to watch closely and coordinate efforts with federal
mandates.
There being no further business to come before committee, the meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED:
PAT MENATH
