The Senate Committee on Judiciary was called to order by Chairman Mark A. James, at 11:18 p.m., on Thursday, July 1, 1993, on the Senate floor of the Legislative Building, Carson City, Nevada.  There was no meeting agenda.  There was no attendance roster.

Chairman James called the meeting to order at his desk on the senate floor to consider the assembly amendments to Senate Bill (S.B.) 540.  Senator James briefly explained the amendments.

 

SENATE BILL 540:  Provides for use of unsworn declaration under penalty of perjury. (BDR 4-1862)

 

      SENATOR TITUS MOVED TO CONCUR IN ASSEMBLY AMENDMENT NOS. 1300 AND 1209 TO S.B. 540.

 

      SENATOR ADLER SECONDED THE MOTION.

 

      THE MOTION CARRIED. (SENATORS SMITH, MCGINNESS, AND SHAFFER WERE ABSENT FOR THE VOTE.)

Chairman James opened the hearing on Assembly Bill (A.B.) 596.

 

ASSEMBLY BILL 596:      Makes various changes to encourage education of illiterate offenders in custody of department of prisons. (BDR 16-1609)

 

The committee briefly reviewed the bill, which is sponsored by Assemblyman Jack Regan.

 

      SENATOR ADLER MOVED TO DO PASS A.B. 596.

 

      SENATOR TITUS SECONDED THE MOTION.

 

      THE MOTION CARRIED. (SENATORS SMITH, MCGINNESS, AND SHAFFER WERE ABSENT FOR THE VOTE.)
