      Sixty-seventh Session

The Senate Committee on Transportation was called to order by Chairman William R. O'Donnell, at 12:41 p.m., on Tuesday, June 22, 1993, on the Senate floor of the Legislative Building, Carson City, Nevada.  There was no Meeting Agenda.  There was no Attendance Roster.

Chairman O'Donnell convened the meeting to discuss Assembly Bill (A.B.) 323.

 

Assembly Bill 323:      Imposes fee on short-term rental of passenger car.

 

Chairman O'Donnell explained an amendment to the bill which would give 2 percent to the General Fund and the remaining 4 percent would go to the rental car companies.

 

      SENATOR NEVIN MOVED TO AMEND AND DO PASS A.B. 323.

 

      SENATOR NEAL SECONDED THE MOTION.

 

      THE MOTION CARRIED.  (SENATORS BROWN, JAMES AND HICKEY ABSTAINED FROM THE VOTE.)

Chairman O'Donnell then went on to Senate Bill (S.B.) 371.

 

Senate Bill 371:  Makes various changes relating to licensing and registration of motor vehicles.

 

Chairman O'Donnell explained the amendment which would allow the vision impaired to receive a handicapped parking permit.  He also pointed out that this bill conflicts with S.B. 193.

 

Senate Bill 193:  Allows department of motor vehicles and public safety to establish more flexible requirements for reinstatement of drivers' licenses.

 

Chairman O'Donnell asked for a motion on S.B. 371.

 

      SENATOR NEVIN MOVED TO RESOLVE THE CONFLICT WITH S.B. 193 AND TO AMEND AND DO PASS S.B. 371.

 

      SENATOR JACOBSEN SECONDED THE MOTION.

 

      THE MOTION CARRIED.  (SENATORS JAMES AND HICKEY WERE ABSENT FOR THE VOTE.)

Chairman O'Donnell discussed A.B. 138.

 

Assembly Bill 138:      Revises provisions regarding speed limits in school zones and school crossing zones.

 

The committee discussed an amendment which would delete section 6 and correct sections B and C.

 

      SENATOR NEVIN MOVED TO AMEND AND DO PASS A.B. 138.

 

      NEAL SECONDED THE MOTION.

 

      THE MOTION CARRIED.  (SENATORS JAMES AND HICKEY WERE ABSENT FOR THE VOTE.)

There being no further business before the committee, Chairman O'Donnell adjourned the meeting at 12:45 p.m.
