SUMMARY--Recognizes square dance as American folk

ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTION--Recognizing the square dance as the 
        American folk dance.


  WHEREAS, The square dance is an art form that 
originated in our country and has been danced continuously 
in Nevada since the early mining days; and
  WHEREAS, As the popularity of square dancing 
has increased, the variations of the original square 
have expanded to include rounds, clogging, contra, line and 
heritage dances; and
  WHEREAS, The costuming, music and calling of 
the square dance are in themselves a delightful form of 
artistic expression; and
  WHEREAS, With the rapid growth in the 
population of Nevada, the number of enthusiastic 
participants in square dancing has increased, making it one 
of Nevada's truly wholesome social activities which appeals 
to people of all ages, races and creeds; now, therefore, be 
it
  RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, THE 
SENATE CONCURRING, That the members of the 68th Nevada 
Legislature do hereby recognize square dancing as the 
American folk dance; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That residents of the State of 
Nevada who participate in square dancing are to be commended 
for perpetuating a portion of America's heritage.
