AN ACT relating to peace officers; requiring peace officers to receive training in the detection of the use and abuse of alcohol and controlled substances; requiring the peace officers' standards and training committee to adopt regulations establishing the minimum requirements for that training; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1 Chapter 481 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto a new section to read as follows:
1. As a condition to the certification of each peace officer, the peace officers' standards and training committee shall require each peace officer to be trained in the detection of the use and abuse of alcohol and controlled substances.
2. The peace officers' standards and training committee shall adopt regulations which set forth the minimum training required to comply with subsection 1.
Sec. 2 A peace officer who is certified on October 1, 1997, shall complete the training required by section 1 of this act on or before October 1, 1998.
