REMARKS FROM THE FLOOR

Senator Raggio requested that the following remarks be entered in the Journal.

Senator Raggio:
Seeing the Middle School from Lovelock here today, I think it appropriate that we acknowledge the efforts of all of the boys and girls who participated in the state basketball tournament in Reno this weekend. I will mention first that the Lovelock Mustangs did a very credible job by going all the way to the finals. I believe they were in a lot of the news broadcasts such as Paul Harvey and national TV programs. The entire town of Lovelock turned out for that tournament. Even though they lost to a very good team, Virgin Valley, I think the Lovelock Mustangs credited themselves very well. Also, I know I am going to leave out some of the schools, but Bishop Gorman won the boys tournament. Elko won the AAA girls tournament. I think we owe a vote a thanks to the way all of those young men and women credited themselves during the recent state tournament.

Senator O'Donnell:
Mr. President, I would just like to say that I also congratulate Bishop Gorman High School, my alumni and that of Senator Schneider. We have had inspiration in the past in spurring these young students on so we feel it fitting that they should win.

Senator Raggio:
I think, if that is going to be the ruling, we should recognize those from Galena High School who also went to the finals.

Senator O'Donnell:
I just want to say that Shane Christianson, who happens to be the son of Ray Christianson and was a fellow classmate of mine, I went to school with him from third grade on. He is a very dear friend of mine, a great individual and I think that his son shows that he is the product of a great father. Also, my nephew Ryan Peters was on the ball team, as well. It is a small world and I am very proud of all of them and wish them the best of luck in the future.

Senator McGinness:
Since the Majority Leader started this, I have to mention that the girls from Hawthorne won their fourth straight title which is something that is unheard of. Usually you can put a team together for a couple of years, but four years in a row is amazing. I also believe the Lincoln County girls won in their division. So, those teams in my district did quite well.

Senator Augustine:
One thing that has not been mentioned here is that Bishop Gorman High School is in Senate District 7 which is the district the Minority Leader and I represent. My daughter is a senior at Bishop Gorman. I also want to acknowledge Bishop Monogue who opened their school for food and refreshments Saturday night after the game.
