The Senate Committee on Finance was called to order by Chairman William J. Raggio, at 6:27 p.m., on Monday, May 31, 1999, on the Senate Floor of the Legislative Building, Carson City, Nevada. There was no Agenda. There was no Attendance Roster.

Senator Raggio stated there are several bills for consideration. He described the provisions of Assembly Bill (A.B.) 703.

ASSEMBLY BILL 703: Makes appropriations for various projects and programs that benefit residents of this state. (BDR S-1786)

SENATOR NEAL MOVED TO DO PASS A.B. 703.

SENATOR O’DONNELL SECONDED THE MOTION.

THE MOTION CARRIED. (SENATOR COFFIN WAS ABSENT FOR THE VOTE.)

Jeanne L. Botts, Senior Program Analyst, Fiscal Analysis Division, Legislative Counsel Bureau, explained Amendment No.1229 to A.B. 521. She said a pilot program will be implemented at 8 schools.

ASSEMBLY BILL 521: Makes various changes relating to discipline of pupils. (BDR 34-1328)

SENATOR RAWSON MOVED TO AMEND AND DO PASS A.B. 521 WITH AMENDMENT NO. 1229.

SENATOR O’DONNELL SECONDED THE MOTION.

THE MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.

Senator Raggio reviewed Amendment No. 1227 to Senate Bill (S.B.) 496, the Millennium Scholarship bill.

SENATE BILL 496: Creates millennium scholarship trust fund. (BDR 34-1685)

SENATOR O’DONNELL MOVED TO AMEND AND DO PASS S.B. 496 WITH AMENDMENT NO. 1227.

SENATOR NEAL SECONDED THE MOTION.

Senator Coffin asked how much of the tobacco settlement money will be used for smoking cessation. Ms. Botts replied 10 percent will be used for this purpose.

THE MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
