1-1 Section 1. Chapter 4 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto a

1-2 new section to read as follows:

1-3 1. If a justice of the peace orders a defendant who is convicted of a

1-4 misdemeanor to make restitution to a person named in the order, the

1-5 justice’s court or the county in which the justice’s court is located shall

1-6 collect the restitution paid by the defendant.

1-7 2. All money for restitution collected by a justice’s court or county

1-8 pursuant to subsection 1 must be paid to the person named in the order

1-9 in the manner set forth in the order.

2-1 3. If a justice’s court or county that has collected money for

2-2 restitution pursuant to subsection 1 cannot, after a good faith effort,

2-3 locate the person named in the order, it shall deposit the money in a fund

2-4 for the compensation of victims of crime created by the office of the

2-5 district attorney of the county in which the court is located.

2-6 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
