AN ACT relating to education; revising provisions governing patriotic observance in public schools; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 389.040 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 389.040 [There shall be at least 1 hour set aside each school week in

1-3 all graded schools and high schools in the State of Nevada for the purpose

1-4 of holding patriotic exercises.] Each public school shall set aside

1-5 appropriate time at the beginning of each school day for pupils to pledge

1-6 their allegiance to the flag of the United States. In addition, each public

1-7 school may set aside appropriate time during the school day for

1-8 additional patriotic observance.

1-9 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective on July 1, 1999.
