THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. NRS 484.473 is hereby amended to read as follows: 484.4731-3
1. Except as otherwise provided in subsection 2, a person shall not ,1-4
with regard to a vehicle being operated on a paved highway, ride1-5

primarily designed or intended for carrying goods or other cargo or that1-7
is otherwise1-8

within the bed of a pickup truck or within a camper shell or slide-in1-12
camper.1-13
2. A person may ride within the bed of a pickup truck or within a1-14
camper shell or slide-in camper if the person is:1-15
(a) Sixteen years of age or older; or1-16
(b) Under 16 years of age and the pickup truck is not being operated1-17
on a freeway or in an urban area.2-1
3. A citation must be issued to the driver of a vehicle in which a2-2
person is riding in violation of this section. The driver shall be punished2-3
by a fine of not more than $25 or by a sentence to perform a certain2-4
number of hours of work for the community.2-5
4. A violation of this section:2-6
(a) Is not a moving traffic violation for the purposes of NRS 483.473;2-7
and2-8
(b) May not be considered:2-9
(1) Negligence in any civil action; or2-10
(2) Negligence or reckless driving for the purposes of NRS 484.377.2-11
5. As used in this section:2-12
(a) "Camper shell" has the meaning ascribed to it in NRS 361.017.2-13
(b) "Freeway" has the meaning ascribed to it in NRS 408.060.2-14
(c) "Slide-in camper" has the meaning ascribed to it in NRS 482.113.2-15
Sec. 2. The amendatory provisions of this act do not apply to offenses2-16
that are committed before October 1, 1999.~
