AN ACT relating to the state personnel system; requiring that certain information obtained in an investigation of the conduct of an officer or employee of the executive department of government be recorded, kept confidential until the completion of the investigation and made available to the public upon completion of the investigation; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. Chapter 284 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto

1-2 a new section to read as follows:

1-3 Except as otherwise provided by a specific statute:

1-4 1. Information that is obtained during the course of an internal

1-5 investigation of the conduct of an officer or employee in the executive

1-6 department of state government to determine whether to discipline the

1-7 officer or employee:

1-8 (a) Must be recorded and placed in one investigatory file; and

1-9 (b) Is confidential until the investigation is completed.

1-10 2. Upon completion of the investigation, the information that is

1-11 contained in the investigatory file is a public record and must be made

1-12 available for public inspection.
