AN ACT relating to employment; requiring certain private employers to grant leave with pay to certain employees for meetings with educational personnel; providing a penalty; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. Chapter 608 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto

1-2 a new section to read as follows:

1-3 Each employer who employs at least 300 employees in private

1-4 employment in this state shall, in addition to any other leave, grant to

1-5 each employee 2 hours of leave with pay each year for each child of the

1-6 employee who attends kindergarten or grades 1 to 12, inclusive, to meet

1-7 with the teacher or counselor of the child, or the principal or any other

1-8 administrator of the school that the child attends.

1-9 Sec. 2. NRS 608.180 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-10 608.180 The labor commissioner or his representative shall cause the

1-11 provisions of NRS 608.005 to 608.170, inclusive, and section 1 of this act,

1-12 to be enforced, and upon notice from the labor commissioner or his

1-13 representative:

1-14 1. The district attorney of any county in which a violation of those

1-15 sections has occurred;

1-16 2. The deputy labor commissioner, as provided in NRS 607.050;

2-1 3. The attorney general, as provided in NRS 607.160; or

2-2 4. The special counsel, as provided in NRS 607.065,

2-3 shall prosecute the action for enforcement according to law.

2-4 Sec. 3. NRS 608.195 is hereby amended to read as follows:

2-5 608.195 Every person violating any of the provisions of NRS 608.005

2-6 to 608.190, inclusive, and section 1 of this act, is guilty of a misdemeanor.

2-7 Sec. 4. The amendatory provisions of this act do not apply to offenses

2-8 that were committed before October 1, 1999.
