AN ACT relating to programs for public employees; revising the provisions governing the securing of certain insurance and services for the officers and employees of a public agency through a nonprofit cooperative association or nonprofit corporation; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 287.025 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 287.025 The governing body of any county, school district, municipal

1-3 corporation, political subdivision, public corporation or other public

1-4 agency of the State of Nevada may, in addition to the other powers granted

1-5 in NRS 287.010 and 287.020:

1-6 1. Negotiate and contract with any other such agency or with the

1-7 committee on benefits for the state’s group insurance plan to secure group

1-8 insurance for its officers and employees and their dependents by

1-9 participation in any group insurance plan established or to be established or

1-10 in the state’s group insurance plan; and

1-11 2. To secure group health or life insurance [or related medical

1-12 services] for its officers and employees and their dependents, [excluding

1-13 industrial insurance,] participate as a member of a nonprofit cooperative

1-14 association or nonprofit corporation that has been established in this state

1-15 [solely to purchase] to secure such insurance [or medical services] for its

2-1 members from an insurer licensed pursuant to the provisions of Title 57 of

2-2 NRS.

2-3 3. In addition to the provisions of subsection 2, participate as a

2-4 member of a nonprofit cooperative association or nonprofit corporation

2-5 that has been established in this state to:

2-6 (a) Facilitate contractual arrangements for the provision of medical

2-7 services to its members’ officers and employees and their dependents and

2-8 for related administrative services.

2-9 (b) Procure health-related information and disseminate that

2-10 information to its members’ officers and employees and their dependents.

2-11 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
