AN ACT making an appropriation to the Department of Education for the extension of teachers’ contracts by 2 days to provide professional development for teachers; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state general

1-2 fund to the Department of Education for the extension of teachers’

1-3 contracts by 2 days to provide professional development for each teacher:

1-4 For the fiscal year 1999-2000 $9,000,000

1-5 For the fiscal year 2000-2001 $9,800,000

1-6 2. The money appropriated by subsection 1 must be distributed to each

1-7 school district at the same time and in the same proportion as the

1-8 Superintendent of Public Instruction apportions money from the state

1-9 distributive school account.

1-10 Sec. 2. 1. The board of trustees of each school district shall, not later

1-11 than December 31, 2000, submit to the Superintendent of Public

1-12 Instruction a report setting forth the details of the activities for professional

1-13 development in which each teacher participated as a result of the additional

1-14 2 days.

2-1 2. The Superintendent of Public Instruction shall, not later than March

2-2 1, 2001, report to the 71st session of the Nevada Legislature regarding the

2-3 efficacy of the programs for professional development with the money

2-4 appropriated by section 1 of this act.

2-5 Sec. 3. This act becomes effective on July 1, 1999.
