AN ACT relating to prisons; requiring the department of prisons to establish a program to use dogs to sniff certain persons entering an institution to detect the presence of a controlled substance; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. Chapter 209 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto

1-2 a new section to read as follows:

1-3 1. The director shall establish a program that provides for each

1-4 person who enters an institution:

1-5 (a) Who will have contact with an offender; or

1-6 (b) Who is authorized to go to a location in the prison to which

1-7 offenders have access,

1-8 to be sniffed by a trained dog to detect the presence of a controlled

1-9 substance.

1-10 2. The director may apply for any available grants and accept any

1-11 gifts, grants or donations to assist in the acquisition, training and use of

1-12 the dogs for the program established pursuant to subsection 1.
