AN ACT relating to motor vehicles; prohibiting a person from using a portable telephone while operating a moving motor vehicle; providing a penalty; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. Chapter 484 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto

1-2 a new section to read as follows:

1-3 1. A person shall not use a portable telephone, including, without

1-4 limitation, a cellular phone, while operating a moving motor vehicle.

1-5 2. A person who violates the provisions of this section is guilty of a

1-6 misdemeanor.

1-7 Sec. 2. The provisions of this act do not apply to offenses that were

1-8 committed before October 1, 1999.
