AN ACT relating to motor vehicles; expanding the circumstances under which special license plates may be used on motor vehicles loaned by dealers and rebuilders of vehicles; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 482.330 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 482.330 1. Upon issuance of a dealer’s, distributor’s, manufacturer’s

1-3 or rebuilder’s license certificate pursuant to NRS 482.322, the department

1-4 shall furnish to the manufacturer, distributor, dealer or rebuilder one or

1-5 more registration certificates and special plates for use on the vehicles

1-6 [which come within] described in the provisions of NRS 482.320. Each

1-7 plate must have displayed upon it the identification number which is

1-8 assigned to the dealer, distributor, manufacturer or rebuilder, and may at

1-9 the discretion of the department have a different letter or symbol on each

1-10 plate or pair of plates. The manufacturer’s, distributor’s, dealer’s or

1-11 rebuilder’s license plates may be used interchangeably on that vehicle.

1-12 2. The department shall issue to each dealer a reasonable number of

1-13 registration certificates and license plates.

1-14 3. The department [may] shall provide by regulation for the issuance

1-15 of special license plates to dealers or rebuilders [of special license plates]

1-16 and for the number of those plates for use on vehicles loaned by those

1-17 dealers or rebuilders to [customers] :

1-18 (a) Customers in the course of business.

2-1 (b) The State of Nevada.

2-2 (c) The University and Community College System of Nevada.

2-3 (d) A school district.

2-4 (e) A county, city or town.

2-5 (f) An organization that is exempt from taxation pursuant to the

2-6 provisions of section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code.

2-7 The regulations [, if adopted, must provide] must prescribe what use may

2-8 be made of the plates [.] and the persons who may operate a motor

2-9 vehicle with those plates.
