THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state general1-2
fund to the Department of Education for programs, personnel and1-3
educational services designed to meet the special educational needs of1-4
American Indian children and culturally diverse children, including1-5
children whose native language is not English:1-6
For the fiscal year 1999-2000 $148,9891-7
For the fiscal year 2000-2001 $171,1201-8
2. The money appropriated pursuant to subsection 1 must be used by1-9
the Department of Education to employ one educational consultant to serve1-10
the special needs of American Indian children, one educational consultant2-1
to serve the special needs of culturally diverse children, including children2-2
whose native language is not English, and one part-time secretary, and for2-3
travel, equipment and operational expenses related thereto.2-4
Sec. 2. Any balance of the sums appropriated by section 1 of this act2-5
remaining at the end of the respective fiscal years must not be committed2-6
for expenditure after June 30 of the respective fiscal years and reverts to2-7
the state general fund as soon as all payments of money committed have2-8
been made.2-9
Sec. 3. The Department of Education shall evaluate the programs for2-10
American Indian children and culturally diverse children, including2-11
children whose native language is not English, that are funded by the2-12
appropriation made pursuant to section 1 of this act and report its findings2-13
to the 71st session of the Nevada Legislature on or before March 15, 2001.2-14
The report must include an evaluation of the effect such programs have2-15
had on meeting the special needs of such children and increasing the2-16
participation of such children in school programs that assist them in2-17
achieving high educational standards.2-18
Sec. 4. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.~
