AN ACT relating to district courts; providing for an additional judge for the fifth judicial district; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 3.015 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 3.015 For the fifth judicial district there must be [one district judge.]

1-3 two district judges.

1-4 Sec. 2. The additional district judge required for the fifth judicial

1-5 district pursuant to section 1 of this act must be appointed by the governor

1-6 and serve until January 1, 2001. The successor of this judge must be

1-7 selected at the general election to be held on November 7, 2000, and take

1-8 office on January 1, 2001. The term of the successor judge expires on

1-9 January 6, 2003.

1-10 Sec. 3. The provisions of subsection 1 of NRS 354.599 do not apply to

1-11 any additional expenses of a local government that are related to the

1-12 provisions of this act.

1-13 Sec. 4. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
