AN ACT relating to the judicial system; increasing the additional salary for longevity paid to certain justices and judges; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 3.030 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 3.030 1. Until the first Monday in January 1997, the annual base

1-3 salary of each district judge is $79,000. From and after the first Monday in

1-4 January 1997, the annual base salary of each district judge is $100,000.

1-5 2. If a district judge has served in his office for at least [5] 4 years, he

1-6 is entitled to an additional salary of [1] 2 percent of his base salary for each

1-7 year of service. The additional salary must not exceed 22 percent of his

1-8 base salary.

1-9 3. The base salaries and the additional salary for longevity must be

1-10 paid in biweekly installments out of the district judges’ salary account of

1-11 the supreme court.

1-12 4. No salary of any district judge may be paid in advance.

1-13 Sec. 2. NRS 213.015 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-14 213.015 1. A member of the board who has served as a district judge

1-15 or as a justice of the supreme court, or any combination thereof, for at least

1-16 [6] 4 years, is entitled to compensation as a member of the board in the

1-17 amount of [1] 2 percent of his annual salary as a justice of the supreme

2-1 court for each year of service as a district judge or as a justice of the

2-2 supreme court, or any combination thereof. The compensation received by

2-3 a justice for his service on the board must not exceed 22 percent of his

2-4 annual salary as a justice of the supreme court.

2-5 2. The salaries provided for in this section must be paid out of money

2-6 provided by direct legislative appropriation from the state general fund.

2-7 Sec. 3. This act becomes effective on July 1, 1999.
