AN ACT relating to health care; requiring the Department of Human Resources to study the feasibility of providing presumptive eligibility to certain recipients of Medicaid and of providing a similar benefit to recipients of the child health insurance program; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. 1. The Department of Human Resources shall:

1-2 (a) Conduct a study to determine the feasibility of providing:

1-3 (1) Presumptive eligibility to pregnant women pursuant to 42 U.S.C. §

1-4 1396r-1 and to persons who are less than 19 years of age pursuant to 42

1-5 U.S.C. § 1396r-1a in the state plan for Medicaid; and

1-6 (2) A benefit similar to presumptive eligibility to persons who are less

1-7 than 19 years of age in the child health insurance program as established

1-8 pursuant to 42 U.S.C. §§ 1397aa to 1397jj, inclusive; and

1-9 (b) On or before July 1, 2000, submit its findings and recommendations to

1-10 the Legislative Committee on Health Care.

1-11 2. The Legislative Committee on Health Care shall:

1-12 (a) Review the findings and recommendations submitted by the

1-13 Department of Human Resources;

1-14 (b) Submit any appropriate recommendations as a result of that review to

1-15 the Interim Finance Committee; and

2-1 (c) Submit any recommendations for legislation to the 71st session of the

2-2 Nevada Legislature.

2-3 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective on July 1, 1999.
