AN ACT relating to hospital districts; allowing hospital districts to contract for services provided by a hospital not operated by the district; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. Chapter 450 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto

1-2 a new section to read as follows:

1-3 1. An existing hospital district, instead of acquiring and operating a

1-4 district hospital, may contract, or a new hospital district may be created

1-5 to contract, with a public agency or a privately owned hospital to provide

1-6 the services of a hospital to the residents of the district. If such a contract

1-7 is executed, the board of trustees:

1-8 (a) Shall prepare a budget pursuant to NRS 450.650;

1-9 (b) Shall levy a tax pursuant to NRS 450.660;

1-10 (c) May accept donations pursuant to NRS 450.690;

1-11 (d) May determine medical indigency pursuant to NRS 450.700; and

1-12 (e) May not borrow money or otherwise incur or assume indebtedness.

1-13 2. If a new hospital district is created for this purpose, the board of

1-14 county commissioners shall so specify in the resolution creating the

1-15 hospital district.

1-16 Sec. 2. NRS 450.550 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-17 450.550 As used in NRS 450.550 to 450.750, inclusive, and section 1

1-18 of this act, unless the context otherwise requires:

1-19 1. "Board of trustees" means:

2-1 (a) A board of hospital trustees:

2-2 (1) Elected pursuant to NRS 450.620; or

2-3 (2) Appointed pursuant to NRS 450.625; or

2-4 (b) A board of county commissioners, if that board enacts an ordinance

2-5 which provides that the board of county commissioners is, ex officio, the

2-6 board of hospital trustees.

2-7 2. "District hospital" means a hospital constructed, maintained and

2-8 governed pursuant to NRS 450.550 to 450.750, inclusive.
