AN ACT relating to school personnel; removing the requirement that a superintendent of schools of a school district be licensed as a school administrator; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 391.110 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 391.110 1. The board of trustees of a school district may:

1-3 (a) Employ any person [licensed for the position of administrator]

1-4 whom the board of trustees determines is qualified to serve as the

1-5 superintendent of schools of the school district. The commission may

1-6 require the superintendent of any school district to hold a master’s degree.

1-7 (b) Define his powers and fix his duties.

1-8 (c) Fix his salary.

1-9 2. A superintendent of schools may be employed for an initial term not

1-10 to exceed 4 years. The term of any subsequent employment may be of any

1-11 duration.

1-12 3. A superintendent of schools may be dismissed at any time for cause.

1-13 4. A superintendent of schools may administer oaths or affirmations

1-14 relating to public schools.

1-15 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective on July 1, 1999.
