AN ACT relating to the commission for the preservation of wild horses; authorizing the commission to retain the balance of an appropriation previously made to the commission to conduct a study of the feasibility of establishing a private foundation for the promotion of the public adoption of wild horses and burros; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. Section 11 of chapter 537, Statutes of Nevada 1997, at

1-2 page 2537, is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-3 Sec. 11. 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection 4 of

1-4 NRS 504.450, there is hereby appropriated from the state general

1-5 fund to the director’s office of the state department of conservation

1-6 and natural resources the following sums for the purposes set forth

1-7 in subsection 2:

1-8 (a) For the fiscal year 1997-98 $75,000

1-9 (b) For the fiscal [year 1998-99] years 1998-00 75,000

1-10 2. The sums appropriated by subsection 1 must be allocated as

1-11 follows [for each of the respective fiscal years:] :

1-12 (a) For the fiscal year 1997-98:

2-1 For the salaries of the members of the commission for

2-2 the preservation of wild horses and their expenses for

2-3 travel in this state and the expenses relating to their

2-4 participation in seminars, public hearings and field

2-5 trips to gather information required for the

2-6 preparation and adoption of the plan required by

2-7 section 9 of this act $13,500

2-8 For the salary, benefits and travel and operating

2-9 expenses of a wildlife staff biologist in the director’s

2-10 office of the state department of conservation and

2-11 natural resources to assist the commission for the

2-12 preservation of wild horses in the preparation of the

2-13 plan required by section 9 of this act 61,500

2-14 (b) For the fiscal year 1998-99:

2-15 For the salaries of the members of the commission for

2-16 the preservation of wild horses and their expenses

2-17 for travel in this state and the expenses relating to

2-18 their participation in seminars, public hearings and

2-19 field trips to gather information required for the

2-20 preparation and adoption of the plan required by

2-21 section 9 of this act $13,500

2-22 For the salary, benefits and travel and operating

2-23 expenses of a wildlife staff biologist in the director’s

2-24 office of the state department of conservation and

2-25 natural resources to assist the commission for the

2-26 preservation of wild horses in the preparation of the

2-27 plan required by section 9 of this act 61,500

2-28 (c) For the fiscal year 1999-00, any balance of the sum

2-29 appropriated pursuant to paragraph (b) of subsection 1 which has

2-30 not been committed for expenditure on June 30, 1999, may be

2-31 expended by the commission for the preservation of wild horses to

2-32 conduct a study of the feasibility of establishing a private

2-33 foundation for the promotion of the public adoption of wild

2-34 horses and burros.

2-35 3. Any balance of the [sums] sum appropriated by :

2-36 (a) Paragraph (a) of subsection 1 remaining [at the end of the

2-37 respective fiscal years] on June 30, 1998, must not be committed

2-38 for expenditure after [June 30 of the respective fiscal year] that date

2-39 and reverts to the state general fund as soon as all payments of

2-40 money committed have been made.

3-1 (b) Paragraph (b) of subsection 1 remaining on June 30, 2000,

3-2 must not be committed for expenditure after that date and reverts

3-3 to the state general fund as soon as all payments of money

3-4 committed have been made.

3-5 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
