AN ACT relating to prisons; authorizing travel expenses for certain persons employed at the

Men’s Prison No. 7; increasing the amount authorized for travel expenses; making

appropriations; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. NRS 209.183 is hereby amended to read as follows:

  1. 209.183 In addition to his regular salary, each person employed by the
  1. department of prisons or the division of forestry of the state department of
  1. conservation and natural resources at the Southern Nevada Correctional
  1. Center, the Southern Desert Correctional Center, the Indian Springs
  1. Conservation Camp, the correctional institution identified as the Men’s
  1. Prison No. 7 in chapter 656, Statutes of Nevada 1995, and chapter 478,
  1. Statutes of Nevada 1997, or the [proposed] Jean Conservation Camp is
  1. entitled to receive, as compensation for travel expenses, not more than [$6]
  1. $7.50 for each day he reports to work if his residence is more than 25 miles
  1. from the respective facility. The total cost for compensation for travel
  1. expenses authorized by this section must not exceed the amount specially
  1. appropriated for this purpose.

Sec. 2. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to

the department of prisons:

For the fiscal year 1999-2000 $156,354

For the fiscal year 2000-2001 $224,718

2. The money appropriated by subsection 1 must be allocated as

follows:

Prison medical care $29,568 $34,342

Director’s office $2,746 $3,308

Southern Nevada Correctional Center $44,255 $7,888

Indian Springs Conservation Camp $7,037 $7,037

Southern Desert Correctional Center $68,709 $67,550

Jean Conservation Camp $4,039 $4,039

Men’s Prison No. 7 (Cold Creek State Prison) -0- $100,554

Sec. 3. There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to the

division of forestry of the state department of conservation and natural

resources:

For the fiscal year 1999-2000 $5,745

For the fiscal year 2000-2001 $5,713

Sec. 4. Any balance of the sums appropriated by sections 2 and 3 of

this act remaining at the end of the respective fiscal years must not be

committed for expenditure after June 30 of the respective fiscal years and

reverts to the state general fund as soon as all payments of money

committed have been made.

Sec. 5. This act becomes effective on July 1, 1999.
