AN ACT relating to prisons; authorizing travel expenses for certain persons employed at the Men’s Prison No. 7; increasing the amount authorized for travel expenses; making appropriations; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 209.183 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 209.183 In addition to his regular salary, each person employed by the

1-3 department of prisons or the division of forestry of the state department of

1-4 conservation and natural resources at the Southern Nevada Correctional

1-5 Center, the Southern Desert Correctional Center, the Indian Springs

1-6 Conservation Camp, the correctional institution identified as the Men’s

1-7 Prison No. 7 in chapter 656, Statutes of Nevada 1995, and chapter 478,

1-8 Statutes of Nevada 1997, or the [proposed] Jean Conservation Camp is

1-9 entitled to receive, as compensation for travel expenses, not more than [$6]

1-10 $7.50 for each day he reports to work if his residence is more than 25 miles

1-11 from the respective facility. The total cost for compensation for travel

1-12 expenses authorized by this section must not exceed the amount specially

1-13 appropriated for this purpose.

1-14 Sec. 2. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to

1-15 the department of prisons:

1-16 For the fiscal year 1999-2000 $156,354

1-17 For the fiscal year 2000-2001 $224,718

2-1 2. The money appropriated by subsection 1 must be allocated as

2-2 follows:

2-5 Director’s office $2,746 $3,308

2-6 Southern Nevada Correctional Center $44,255 $7,888

2-7 Indian Springs Conservation Camp $7,037 $7,037

2-10 Men’s Prison No. 7 (Cold Creek State Prison) -0- $100,554

2-11 Sec. 3. There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to the

2-12 division of forestry of the state department of conservation and natural

2-13 resources:

2-14 For the fiscal year 1999-2000 $5,745

2-15 For the fiscal year 2000-2001 $5,713

2-16 Sec. 4. Any balance of the sums appropriated by sections 2 and 3 of

2-17 this act remaining at the end of the respective fiscal years must not be

2-18 committed for expenditure after June 30 of the respective fiscal years and

2-19 reverts to the state general fund as soon as all payments of money

2-20 committed have been made.

2-21 Sec. 5. This act becomes effective on July 1, 1999.
