ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTION—Urging the Department of Human Resources
to provide reimbursement for the cost of living in an assisted living facility for recipients of
Medicaid in appropriate circumstances.

Whereas, The cost of institutional long-term care is very high and1-2
continues to rise; and1-3
Whereas, Studies indicate that, given a choice, people prefer to live in1-4
an assisted living facility that provides long-term care rather than in an1-5
institution, such as a nursing home; and1-6
Whereas, Assisted living facilities offer a less expensive alternative to1-7
institutional long-term care and an environment that allows residents to1-8
maintain independence, dignity and privacy; and1-9
Whereas, The Medicaid program in this state currently provides1-10
reimbursement for the cost of institutional long-term care but does not1-11
provide reimbursement for the cost of living in an assisted living facility,1-12
making these facilities inaccessible to lower income persons in this state;1-13
and1-14
Whereas, If the Medicaid program provided reimbursement for the1-15
cost of living in an assisted living facility for its recipients in appropriate1-16
circumstances, the State of Nevada would save money and recipients of1-17
Medicaid would enjoy a better quality of life; now, therefore, be it2-1
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate2-2
Concurring, That the Nevada Legislature hereby urges the Department2-3
of Human Resources to amend the state plan for Medicaid to provide2-4
reimbursement for the cost of living in an assisted living facility in2-5
appropriate circumstances; and be it further2-6
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit a2-7
copy of this resolution to the Director of the Department of Human2-8
Resources.~
