ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTION—Urging the University and Community
College System of Nevada to increase efforts to develop course offerings, academic programs
and student activities for students from all racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Whereas, One of the goals of the University and Community College1-2
System of Nevada is to improve the access to and quality of educational1-3
opportunities for Nevada’s students; and1-4
Whereas, A quality experience in higher education must include an1-5
opportunity for all students to learn about the economic, political and social1-6
contributions made by all the ethnic groups in our society; and1-7
Whereas, Because of the wide range of ethnic diversity of the students1-8
who attend the universities and community colleges in this state, these1-9
institutions must adjust their curriculum and approach to teaching to better1-10
provide these students with a curriculum that is more ethnically and1-11
culturally diverse; and1-12
Whereas, The ever-changing ethnic and racial composition of student1-13
enrollment in the universities and community colleges in this state has1-14
focused attention on the lack of funding and staff allocated to organizations1-15
specific to racial and ethnic groups, the need for an ethnically diverse group1-16
of counselors to work in student support programs, the lack of on-campus1-17
activities for students of color and the lack of courses relevant to specific1-18
ethnic and racial groups; and2-1
Whereas, The students who attend the universities and community2-2
colleges in this state would benefit from an increase in course offerings,2-3
academic programs and student activities relevant to students of color; now,2-4
therefore, be it2-5
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate2-6
Concurring, That the members of the 70th session of the Nevada2-7
Legislature do hereby urge the University and Community College System2-8
of Nevada to increase efforts to develop course offerings, academic2-9
programs and student activities available at its institutions that better reflect2-10
the cultural diversity of the student body and local communities; and be it2-11
further2-12
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit a2-13
copy of this resolution to the Chairman of the Board of Regents of the2-14
University of Nevada.~
