ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTION—Memorializing former Chief of the
Legislative Police Jerry A. Kenney.

Whereas, The members of the Nevada Legislature note with profound1-2
sorrow the passing of former Chief of the Legislative Police, Jerry A.1-3
Kenney, on December 27, 1997; and1-4
Whereas, Jerry Kenney was born January 18, 1936, to Patrick and1-5
Florence Keegan Kenney of LeMars, Iowa; and1-6
Whereas, While employed by the Los Angeles Police Department from1-7
1959 to 1979, Jerry Kenney received an honorable discharge from the1-8
United States Marine Corps in 1962, and, in 1976, he earned an Associate1-9
of Arts degree from Moorpark Junior College in Moorpark, California; and1-10
Whereas, After retiring as a detective from the Los Angeles Police1-11
Department, Jerry and his family moved to Carson City; and2-1
Whereas, Jerry Kenney was hired as an officer with the Legislative2-2
Police on March 3, 1985, because of his knowledge and experience in law2-3
enforcement, and was promoted to Lieutenant of the Legislative Police on2-4
July 1, 1987; and2-5
Whereas, On September 8, 1992, Jerry Kenney was promoted to Chief2-6
of the Legislative Police and continued in this capacity until his untimely2-7
death; and2-8
Whereas, This avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers was named an2-9
"Outstanding Dad" by the team on July 20, 1991, and was always prepared2-10
to help any willing listener understand just how great the Dodgers were;2-11
and2-12
Whereas, Jerry Kenney served as regional Chairman and Vice2-13
Chairman of the National Legislative Services and Security Association, a2-14
group of state legislative officers and sergeants-at-arms, and held numerous2-15
professional certificates which he had received throughout his career in law2-16
enforcement; and2-17
Whereas, Following his death, flags at the Nevada Legislature were2-18
flown at half-mast for several days to pay tribute to this highly regarded2-19
officer; and2-20
Whereas, Jerry Kenney is survived by his beloved wife, Gay Swetman2-21
Kenney of Carson City, his son, Jim of Ventura, California, daughter,2-22
Kathleen Hughes of Reno, brothers, Tom Letsche of Remsen, Iowa, and2-23
Patrick Kenney of Rapid City, South Dakota, and 10 grandchildren; now,2-24
therefore, be it2-25
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate2-26
Concurring, That the members of the 70th session of the Nevada2-27
Legislature express their heartfelt condolences to Jerry’s wife, Gay, and the2-28
rest of his beloved family; and be it further2-29
Resolved, That Jerry Kenney will long be remembered because of his2-30
easy-going nature, his loyalty to the L.A. Dodgers and his dedication to the2-31
Nevada Legislature and law enforcement; and be it further2-32
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit a2-33
copy of this resolution to Jerry’s loving wife, Gay.~
