ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONMemorializing former Chief of the

Legislative Police Jerry A. Kenney.

1-1 Whereas, The members of the Nevada Legislature note with profound

1-2 sorrow the passing of former Chief of the Legislative Police, Jerry A.

1-3 Kenney, on December 27, 1997; and

1-4 Whereas, Jerry Kenney was born January 18, 1936, to Patrick and

1-5 Florence Keegan Kenney of LeMars, Iowa; and

1-6 Whereas, While employed by the Los Angeles Police Department from

1-7 1959 to 1979, Jerry Kenney received an honorable discharge from the

1-8 United States Marine Corps in 1962, and, in 1976, he earned an Associate

1-9 of Arts degree from Moorpark Junior College in Moorpark, California; and

1-10 Whereas, After retiring as a detective from the Los Angeles Police

1-11 Department, Jerry and his family moved to Carson City; and

2-1 Whereas, Jerry Kenney was hired as an officer with the Legislative

2-2 Police on March 3, 1985, because of his knowledge and experience in law

2-3 enforcement, and was promoted to Lieutenant of the Legislative Police on

2-4 July 1, 1987; and

2-5 Whereas, On September 8, 1992, Jerry Kenney was promoted to Chief

2-6 of the Legislative Police and continued in this capacity until his untimely

2-7 death; and

2-8 Whereas, This avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers was named an

2-9 "Outstanding Dad" by the team on July 20, 1991, and was always prepared

2-10 to help any willing listener understand just how great the Dodgers were;

2-11 and

2-12 Whereas, Jerry Kenney served as regional Chairman and Vice

2-13 Chairman of the National Legislative Services and Security Association, a

2-14 group of state legislative officers and sergeants-at-arms, and held numerous

2-15 professional certificates which he had received throughout his career in law

2-16 enforcement; and

2-17 Whereas, Following his death, flags at the Nevada Legislature were

2-18 flown at half-mast for several days to pay tribute to this highly regarded

2-19 officer; and

2-20 Whereas, Jerry Kenney is survived by his beloved wife, Gay Swetman

2-21 Kenney of Carson City, his son, Jim of Ventura, California, daughter,

2-22 Kathleen Hughes of Reno, brothers, Tom Letsche of Remsen, Iowa, and

2-23 Patrick Kenney of Rapid City, South Dakota, and 10 grandchildren; now,

2-24 therefore, be it

2-25 Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate

2-26 Concurring, That the members of the 70th session of the Nevada

2-27 Legislature express their heartfelt condolences to Jerry’s wife, Gay, and the

2-28 rest of his beloved family; and be it further

2-29 Resolved, That Jerry Kenney will long be remembered because of his

2-30 easy-going nature, his loyalty to the L.A. Dodgers and his dedication to the

2-31 Nevada Legislature and law enforcement; and be it further

2-32 Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit a

2-33 copy of this resolution to Jerry’s loving wife, Gay.
