ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTION—Commending the Reno Chamber Orchestra
for 25 years of contribution to the arts in the State of Nevada.

Whereas, The Reno Chamber Orchestra is celebrating 25 years of1-2
inspired musical performances of repertoire written for the smaller, more1-3
intimate orchestra; and1-4
Whereas, The Reno Chamber Orchestra has added immeasurably to1-5
the cultural life of the residents of the Truckee Meadows and Northern1-6
Nevada; and1-7
Whereas, The Reno Chamber Orchestra has provided a forum for the1-8
extraordinary wealth of musical talent in the Reno area and for nationally1-9
and internationally recognized artists, including showcasing the musical1-10
compositions of Reno composers by performing their works; and2-1
Whereas, The two December performances of Handel’s Messiah by2-2
this talented orchestra have become a family Christmas tradition for many2-3
Northern Nevadans; and2-4
Whereas, Through its annual College Concerto Competition, the only2-5
one of its kind in the State of Nevada, the Reno Chamber Orchestra2-6
continues to foster the careers of young, aspiring musicians enrolled in the2-7
University of Nevada or Nevada residents enrolled full time in a university2-8
elsewhere, including allowing the winner the opportunity to perform with2-9
the Reno Chamber Orchestra; and2-10
Whereas, The Reno Chamber Orchestra makes all performances2-11
accessible to young music students from public schools by encouraging2-12
businesses to support the arts through the underwriting of student ticket2-13
costs; and2-14
Whereas, By traveling to rural Nevada communities, the Reno2-15
Chamber Orchestra brings chamber music performances to communities2-16
that would not otherwise have access to performances by such a2-17
professional orchestra; and2-18
Whereas, The Reno Chamber Orchestra has demonstrated its support2-19
for showcasing Reno as an arts community by participating in Uptown,2-20
Downtown, ARTown, Reno’s annual summer arts festival, by holding two2-21
free concerts for the community; and2-22
Whereas, The hard work and loyal support of Amici della Musica, a2-23
dedicated group of volunteers who have helped raise money for the2-24
orchestra, is invaluable to the success of the orchestra and is greatly2-25
appreciated by the Board of Directors and musicians of the Reno Chamber2-26
Orchestra; and2-27
Whereas, The vision and leadership of Maestro Vahe Khochayan, and2-28
8 of the original 20 accomplished musicians still playing this 1998-19992-29
Silver Anniversary season, including Maestro Khochayan, Jack Beck,2-30
Katherine Jerome, Valerie Nelson, Lani Oelrich, Marilyn Sevilla-Gunther,2-31
Eileen Tibbits and Ginny Tilton, have served to enrich the cultural lives of2-32
Northern Nevadans; and2-33
Whereas, The members of the Reno Chamber Orchestra enhance the2-34
quality of musical instruction in Washoe County schools and educate the2-35
young people of Northern Nevada in the enjoyment of chamber orchestra2-36
music; now, therefore, be it2-37
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate2-38
Concurring, That the members of the Nevada Legislature do hereby2-39
commend and congratulate the Reno Chamber Orchestra for 25 years of2-40
contributions to the arts in the State of Nevada; and be it further2-41
Resolved, That the Nevada Legislature does hereby applaud the artistic2-42
leadership and vision of Maestro Vahe Khochayan in bringing to the Reno2-43
area outstanding musicians who have become vital to the music programs3-1
of the public schools and the University of Nevada, including guest soloists3-2
who have greatly enhanced the musical performances of the Reno Chamber3-3
Orchestra; and be it further3-4
Resolved, That the residents of the State of Nevada are hereby3-5
encouraged to take advantage of all opportunities to attend performances of3-6
the Reno Chamber Orchestra whenever possible; and be it further3-7
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit a3-8
copy of this resolution to the Board of Directors of the Reno Chamber3-9
Orchestra.~
