ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONDesignating April 21, 1999, as E Clampus

Vitus Day at the Nevada Legislature.

1-1 Whereas, It has come to the attention of the Nevada Legislature that

1-2 the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus has maintained its

1-3 honorable status throughout the known world and especially in this great

1-4 State of Nevada; and

1-5 Whereas, The Ancient and Honorable and Exceedingly Humble Order

1-6 of E Clampus Vitus has survived the test of time to become one of the

1-7 longest surviving brotherhoods of men that continues to fulfill a

1-8 fundamental need in providing protection and kindness while advancing the

1-9 noble cause of Clamperdom to residents of the Silver State, especially all

1-10 the "widders" and orphans, and descendants of the argonauts; and

2-1 Whereas, The Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus was founded in

2-2 West Virginia in 1845 by Ephram Bee, owner of a tavern on the National

2-3 Road, and shortly thereafter the warmhearted brothers affectionately

2-4 became known as the "Clampin Vipers"; and

2-5 Whereas, In 1860, William Stewart founded the first Ancient and

2-6 Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus, Winnemucca Lodge #1, in the Utah

2-7 Territory, in the unsuspecting peaceful town known as Carson City; and

2-8 Whereas, The creed of the Clamproctors, yesterday, as well as today,

2-9 is "to protect the ‘widders’ and orphans, and MAINLY the ‘widders’"; and

2-10 Whereas, The State of Nevada is proud to continue the tradition of 154

2-11 years of devoted service with the Nevada chapters which now include the

2-12 Snowshoe Thomson Chapter of Douglas County, the Julia C. Bulette

2-13 Chapter of the Comstock, the Lucinda Jane Saunders Chapter of Elko

2-14 County and the Keheo Chapter of Clark County; now, therefore, be it

2-15 Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate

2-16 Concurring, That the members of the 70th session of the Nevada

2-17 Legislature, of whom many are proud members of E Clampus Vitus, do

2-18 hereby declare April 21, 1999, as E Clampus Vitus Day at the Nevada

2-19 Legislature, a day to be marked by appropriate revelry and thanksgiving;

2-20 and be it further

2-21 Resolved, That the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus

2-22 is praised and commended for its contributions to mankind and others, and

2-23 recognized as an illustrious group of Clampers, Clampatrious, Vituscans

2-24 and Frolicking Friars who must continue to serve and protect the residents

2-25 of the Silver State; and be it further

2-26 Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit a

2-27 copy of this resolution to the Clamp Patriarchs, Peter Van Alstyne and John

2-28 W. Riggs, Sr.
