ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONCommending Nevada’s top two youth

volunteers named by the National Prudential Spirit of Community Awards for 1998.

1-1 Whereas, The Prudential Insurance Company of America, in

1-2 partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals,

1-3 sponsors the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and

1-4 Whereas, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards are designed to

1-5 recognize young people between the ages of 11 and 18 years who have

1-6 demonstrated exemplary, self-initiated community service; and

1-7 Whereas, Nominees are chosen each fall from more than 35,000 public

1-8 and private middle-level and high schools throughout the United States,

1-9 local honorees are selected from these nominees and, from these winners,

1-10 two persons are chosen in each state; and

2-1 Whereas, Nevada’s top two youth volunteers for 1998, Jamie McAdoo

2-2 and Jesse Waite, were selected from a list of distinguished nominees; and

2-3 Whereas, Jamie McAdoo, 18 years, of Elko High School in Elko was

2-4 chosen for her commitment to tutoring a young autistic boy for the past 6

2-5 years and due in part to her work with this boy, she aspires to be a special

2-6 education teacher; and

2-7 Whereas, Jesse Waite, 15 years, of W. Mack Lyon Middle School in

2-8 Overton was chosen for designing and organizing a landscaping project to

2-9 beautify an empty lot at a local elementary school; and

2-10 Whereas, He organized volunteers, solicited donations and,

2-11 overcoming some weighty obstacles, his patience and determination

2-12 enabled him to see the project to completion; and

2-13 Whereas, These young people exemplify the spirit of the community

2-14 that is so important to the future of our cities, towns and neighborhoods;

2-15 now, therefore, be it

2-16 Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate

2-17 Concurring, That Jamie McAdoo and Jesse Waite, Nevada’s top winners

2-18 of the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, are hereby commended for

2-19 their role in enhancing the lives of others and making their communities

2-20 better places to live through community service; and be it further

2-21 Resolved, That the residents of the State of Nevada are urged to take

2-22 inspiration from these young people and follow their example by becoming

2-23 involved in community service; and be it further

2-24 Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit

2-25 copies of this resolution to Jamie McAdoo and Jesse Waite.
