ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONMemorializing former Assemblyman

Richard Kenneth McNeel.

1-1 Whereas, The members of the Nevada Legislature note with profound

1-2 sorrow the passing of former Assemblyman Richard Kenneth McNeel; and

1-3 Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel was born on October 25, 1942, in

1-4 Beaumont, Texas; and

1-5 Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel, who married Karen van Buren,

1-6 moved to Clark County in 1962; and

1-7 Whereas, This Vietnam War veteran attained the rank of First

1-8 Lieutenant in the United States Army and was a member of the Army

1-9 Reserve Corps; and

2-1 Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel joined the International

2-2 Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 357 in 1968 and graduated from

2-3 the electrical workers’ apprenticeship program in 1974; and

2-4 Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel was the first Republican from

2-5 North Las Vegas to be elected to the Assembly; and

2-6 Whereas, During his term as Assemblyman, Richard Kenneth McNeel

2-7 served on the Education, Health and Welfare, Labor and Management, and

2-8 Taxation Committees; and

2-9 Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel was appointed as Labor

2-10 Commissioner in 1979 and served in that position until 1980; and

2-11 Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel was a member of the Clark County

2-12 Republican Central Committee, past Vice President of the North Las Vegas

2-13 Republican Club, past Director of the Nevada State Apprenticeship Council

2-14 and a second generation member of the electrical workers’ union; and

2-15 Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel is survived by his beloved wife,

2-16 Karen, his sons Richard and James, his daughter, Jennifer Fitzpatrick, his

2-17 five brothers, James, Charles, Clark, Bill and Bobby, and his three sisters,

2-18 Shirley Ahlke, Hazel Mabry and Rachel Brandon; now, therefore, be it

2-19 Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate

2-20 Concurring, That the members of the 70th Session of the Nevada

2-21 Legislature mourn the loss of a respected former Assemblyman and offer

2-22 their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Richard Kenneth McNeel; and be

2-23 it further

2-24 Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit a

2-25 copy of this resolution to Richard Kenneth McNeel’s beloved wife, Karen.
