ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTION—Memorializing former Assemblyman
Richard Kenneth McNeel.

Whereas, The members of the Nevada Legislature note with profound1-2
sorrow the passing of former Assemblyman Richard Kenneth McNeel; and1-3
Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel was born on October 25, 1942, in1-4
Beaumont, Texas; and1-5
Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel, who married Karen van Buren,1-6
moved to Clark County in 1962; and1-7
Whereas, This Vietnam War veteran attained the rank of First1-8
Lieutenant in the United States Army and was a member of the Army1-9
Reserve Corps; and2-1
Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel joined the International2-2
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 357 in 1968 and graduated from2-3
the electrical workers’ apprenticeship program in 1974; and2-4
Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel was the first Republican from2-5
North Las Vegas to be elected to the Assembly; and2-6
Whereas, During his term as Assemblyman, Richard Kenneth McNeel2-7
served on the Education, Health and Welfare, Labor and Management, and2-8
Taxation Committees; and2-9
Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel was appointed as Labor2-10
Commissioner in 1979 and served in that position until 1980; and2-11
Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel was a member of the Clark County2-12
Republican Central Committee, past Vice President of the North Las Vegas2-13
Republican Club, past Director of the Nevada State Apprenticeship Council2-14
and a second generation member of the electrical workers’ union; and2-15
Whereas, Richard Kenneth McNeel is survived by his beloved wife,2-16
Karen, his sons Richard and James, his daughter, Jennifer Fitzpatrick, his2-17
five brothers, James, Charles, Clark, Bill and Bobby, and his three sisters,2-18
Shirley Ahlke, Hazel Mabry and Rachel Brandon; now, therefore, be it2-19
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate2-20
Concurring, That the members of the 70th Session of the Nevada2-21
Legislature mourn the loss of a respected former Assemblyman and offer2-22
their heartfelt sympathy to the family of Richard Kenneth McNeel; and be2-23
it further2-24
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit a2-25
copy of this resolution to Richard Kenneth McNeel’s beloved wife, Karen.~
