ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONCommending Nevada businessman and

inventor Paul C. Fisher.

1-1 Whereas, Paul C. Fisher, the inventor of the pressurized Fisher Space

1-2 Pen, was born on October 10, 1913, in Lebanon, Kansas; and

1-3 Whereas, After attending college for 3 years, Paul Fisher interrupted

1-4 his education to work full time at the Cedar Rapids Bakery, where he

1-5 served as General Manager from 1936 to 1938; and

1-6 Whereas, In 1938, Paul Fisher returned to Kansas State University in

1-7 Manhattan, Kansas, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1939;

1-8 and

1-9 Whereas, During World War II, Paul Fisher was General Manager and

1-10 Assistant to the President of Aetna Ball Bearing Manufacturing Company,

1-11 which manufactured bearings for propellers, jeeps, tanks, naval guns and

2-1 other military equipment and which received the "E Award" from the War

2-2 Production Board of the United States for efficient war production; and

2-3 Whereas, In October 1945, after Milton Reynolds of the Reynolds

2-4 International Pen Company introduced the Reynolds BallPoint Pen, an

2-5 amazing new invention that earned millions of dollars for his company in

2-6 the next 3 months but proved defective, Paul Fisher was asked by Reynolds

2-7 to help design a new ball pen and later became Reynolds’ main supplier of

2-8 parts for that pen; and

2-9 Whereas, With encouragement from the top officers of Reynolds

2-10 International Pen Company to invent "the writing instrument of the future,"

2-11 Paul Fisher began his efforts to improve the ball pen, which is a project that

2-12 he continues to this day; and

2-13 Whereas, To finance his continued research, Paul Fisher designed his

2-14 famous Bullet Pens, founded the Fisher Pen Company as a division of

2-15 Fisher Armour Manufacturing Company and began manufacturing Fisher

2-16 Pens in October 1948; and

2-17 Whereas, As President and owner of Fisher Space Pen Company of

2-18 Boulder City, Nevada, Paul Fisher has helped design and build many

2-19 special tools and automatic machines and has several valuable patents,

2-20 including patents covering inks, improved ballpoint pens, the erasable ball

2-21 pens and the pressurized Space Pens that are used on all manned space

2-22 flights; and

2-23 Whereas, Paul Fisher was recognized as Nevada Small Business

2-24 Person of the Year in 1980 by the United States Small Business

2-25 Administration, the Nevada Exporter of the Year in 1995 by Governor Bob

2-26 Miller and the Nevada Inventor of the Year in 1997 by the Nevada

2-27 Technology Council; and

2-28 Whereas, One of Paul Fisher’s inventions was named the Product of

2-29 the Year in 1996 by Imagining Magazine, and the Fisher Space Pen

2-30 Company was selected as one of Nevada’s top 100 private companies in

2-31 1998 by the Las Vegas 100; now, therefore, be it

2-32 Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate

2-33 Concurring, That the members of the 70th session of the Nevada

2-34 Legislature do hereby commend Paul C. Fisher for his enterprising and

2-35 inventive spirit which has contributed in many ways to this country and,

2-36 especially, to the State of Nevada; and be it further

2-37 Resolved, That the residents of this state recognize Paul Fisher as a

2-38 model of what one person with a passion can accomplish; and be it further

2-39 Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit a

2-40 copy of this resolution to Paul C. Fisher.
