Amend section 1, page 1, line 2, by deleting "otherwise" and inserting "otherwise".

Amend section 1, page 1, line 8, by deleting "duties" and inserting "duties,".

Amend section 1, page 1, line 10, by deleting "the" and inserting "this".

Amend section 1, page 1, line 13, by deleting "and".

Amend section 1, page 1, line 14, by deleting "city." and inserting:

"city; and

(d) Not have ever been removed or retired from any judicial office by the commission on judicial discipline.".

Amend section 1, page 1, after line 18, by inserting:

"3. For the purposes of this section, a person shall not be ineligible to be a candidate for the office of municipal judge if a decision to remove or retire him from a judicial office is pending appeal before the supreme court or has been overturned by the supreme court.".

Amend the bill as a whole by adding a new section designated sec. 2, following section 1, to read as follows:

"Sec. 2. This act becomes effective at 12:01 a.m. on October 1, 1999.".
