Senate Bill No. 117–Senator Wiener

CHAPTER........

AN ACT relating to older persons; authorizing the chairman of the Nevada commission on

aging to appoint former members of the commission and other interested persons to

serve in an advisory capacity to the commission; providing for the payment of a per

diem allowance and travel expenses to such persons; and providing other matters

properly relating thereto.

 

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. NRS 427A.034 is hereby amended to read as follows:

  1. 427A.034 1. The commission may meet at least once each calendar
  1. quarter and at other times on the call of the chairman or a majority of its
  1. members.
  1. 2. A majority of the voting members of the commission constitutes a
  1. quorum for the transaction of all business.
  1. 3. The commission shall adopt regulations for its own government.
  1. 4. The chairman may appoint subcommittees and advisory committees
  1. composed of the members of the commission , former members of the
  1. commission and members of the general public who have experience
  1. with or knowledge of matters relating to older persons to consider specific
  1. problems or other matters that are related to and within the scope of the
  1. functions of the commission. A subcommittee or advisory committee
  1. appointed pursuant to this subsection must not contain more than five
  1. members. To the extent practicable, the members of such a subcommittee
  1. or advisory committee must be representative of the various geographic
  1. areas and ethnic groups of this state.

Sec. 2. NRS 427A.036 is hereby amended to read as follows:

  1. 427A.036 1. Each voting member of the commission is entitled to
  1. receive a salary of not more than $80 per day, as fixed by the commission,
  1. while engaged in the business of the commission.
  1. 2. While engaged in the business of the commission, each member of
  1. the commission appointed pursuant to subsection 2 or paragraph (a), (b) or
  1. (d) of subsection 3 of NRS 427A.032 , each former member of the
  1. commission and each member of the general public appointed to serve
  1. on a subcommittee or advisory committee of the commission pursuant to
  1. subsection 4 of NRS 427A.034, and each employee of the commission is
  1. entitled to receive the per diem allowance and travel expenses provided for
  1. state officers and employees generally.
  1. 3. The commission may expend in accordance with law all money
  1. made available for its use.
  2. 4. Except during a regular or special session of the legislature, each
  1. legislative member of the commission is entitled to receive the
  1. compensation provided for a majority of the members of the legislature
  1. during the first 60 days of the preceding regular session for each day or
  1. portion of a day during which he attends a meeting of the commission or is
  1. otherwise engaged in the business of the commission, plus the per diem
  1. allowance and travel expenses provided for state officers and employees
  1. generally. The salaries and expenses of the legislative members of the
  1. commission must be paid from the legislative fund.
