AN ACT relating to older persons; authorizing the chairman of the Nevada commission on aging to appoint former members of the commission and other interested persons to serve in an advisory capacity to the commission; providing for the payment of a per diem allowance and travel expenses to such persons; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 427A.034 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 427A.034 1. The commission may meet at least once each calendar

1-3 quarter and at other times on the call of the chairman or a majority of its

1-4 members.

1-5 2. A majority of the voting members of the commission constitutes a

1-6 quorum for the transaction of all business.

1-7 3. The commission shall adopt regulations for its own government.

1-8 4. The chairman may appoint subcommittees and advisory committees

1-9 composed of the members of the commission , former members of the

1-10 commission and members of the general public who have experience

1-11 with or knowledge of matters relating to older persons to consider specific

1-12 problems or other matters that are related to and within the scope of the

1-13 functions of the commission. A subcommittee or advisory committee

1-14 appointed pursuant to this subsection must not contain more than five

1-15 members. To the extent practicable, the members of such a subcommittee

2-1 or advisory committee must be representative of the various geographic

2-2 areas and ethnic groups of this state.

2-3 Sec. 2. NRS 427A.036 is hereby amended to read as follows:

2-4 427A.036 1. Each voting member of the commission is entitled to

2-5 receive a salary of not more than $80 per day, as fixed by the commission,

2-6 while engaged in the business of the commission.

2-7 2. While engaged in the business of the commission, each member of

2-8 the commission appointed pursuant to subsection 2 or paragraph (a), (b) or

2-9 (d) of subsection 3 of NRS 427A.032 , each former member of the

2-10 commission and each member of the general public appointed to serve

2-11 on a subcommittee or advisory committee of the commission pursuant to

2-12 subsection 4 of NRS 427A.034, and each employee of the commission is

2-13 entitled to receive the per diem allowance and travel expenses provided for

2-14 state officers and employees generally.

2-15 3. The commission may expend in accordance with law all money

2-16 made available for its use.

2-17 4. Except during a regular or special session of the legislature, each

2-18 legislative member of the commission is entitled to receive the

2-19 compensation provided for a majority of the members of the legislature

2-20 during the first 60 days of the preceding regular session for each day or

2-21 portion of a day during which he attends a meeting of the commission or is

2-22 otherwise engaged in the business of the commission, plus the per diem

2-23 allowance and travel expenses provided for state officers and employees

2-24 generally. The salaries and expenses of the legislative members of the

2-25 commission must be paid from the legislative fund.
