disorders are supported and cared for by members of their family; and
Whereas, Alarming statistics indicate that approximately 9,000 persons
with serious brain disorders in the State of Nevada are not receiving
treatment; and
Whereas, The Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Nevada is a nonprofit
organization that has successfully conducted the volunteer program
"Family to Family" in an effort to educate families about the problems
associated with mental illness and to provide methods for coping with and
managing the behavior of family members with serious brain disorders; and
Whereas, Because of the success of the program "Family to Family,"
the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Nevada has received an increased
number of calls for help but has not had the necessary resources to provide
that support to the many families who are struggling to cope with the daily
stress and frustration involved in caring for a person with a serious brain
disorder; now, therefore,
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA,
REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO
ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to2-2
the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Nevada the sum of $75,000 for the2-3
expenses involved in the training of volunteers, the coordination of the2-4
"Family to Family" program and evaluation of its success, and for the2-5
installation of a toll-free telephone number for persons to call who need2-6
help regarding caring for a family member with a serious brain disorder.2-7
Sec. 2. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.~
