AN ACT relating to license plates; providing for the remanufacturing of certain license plates under certain circumstances; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 482.266 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 482.266 1. [At] Except as otherwise provided in subsection 2, upon

1-3 the request of a person who applies for the registration or renewal of the

1-4 registration of a vehicle that has motor vehicle license plates which were

1-5 issued before January 1, 1982, and delivery to the department of the

1-6 license plates, the department shall [refurbish] remanufacture the license

1-7 plates for a fee not to exceed the actual cost of the [refurbishment.]

1-8 remanufacturing.

1-9 2. License plates delivered to the department for remanufacturing

1-10 must be reproduced using the number and letter dies and other

1-11 equipment then being used by the department to produce new license

1-12 plates and must be stamped in an embossed style. The department may

1-13 reject a request for the remanufacturing of a license plate that has

1-14 numbers or letters displayed in a manner that cannot be duplicated using

1-15 such dies and equipment.

2-1 3. If a motor vehicle license plate that was issued before January 1,

2-2 1982, is delivered to the department for [refurbishment,] remanufacturing,

2-3 the person who applies for the registration or renewal of registration of the

2-4 vehicle shall display on the vehicle a temporary permit which must be

2-5 affixed to the vehicle in a form, manner and position determined by the

2-6 department.

2-7 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective at 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2001.
