THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. Section 53 of chapter 473, Statutes of Nevada 1997, at1-2
page 1784, is hereby amended to read as follows:1-3
Sec. 53. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state1-4
general fund to the department of education the sum of1-5
$57,850 for the payment of compensation, per diem allowances and1-6
travel expenses pursuant to subsection 8 of section 43 of this act.1-7
2. Any remaining balance of the appropriation made by1-8
subsection 1 must not be committed for expenditure after June 30,1-9
1999, and reverts to the state general fund as soon as all payments1-10
of money committed have been made.1-11
Sec. 2. Section 54 of chapter 473, Statutes of Nevada 1997, at page1-12
1784, is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 54. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state1-14
general fund to the department of education to pay the costs1-15
incurred by the department of education for purchasing,1-16
administering and scoring the examinations required of pupils who2-1
are enrolled in the 10th grade by the amendatory provisions of NRS2-2
389.015:2-3
For the fiscal year 1997-1998 $130,0002-4
For the fiscal year 1998-19992-5
2. The examinations purchased and administered by the2-6
department of education must be:2-7
(a) Purchased from the same vendor from whom the 4th and 8th2-8
grade examinations are purchased; and2-9
(b) The version of the examination that is administered to pupils2-10
in the 4th and 8th grades which is appropriate for administration in2-11
the 10th grade.2-12
3. The sums appropriated by subsection 1 are available for2-13
either fiscal year. Any balance remaining of those sums must not be2-14
committed for expenditure after June 30, 1999, and reverts to the2-15
state general fund as soon all payments of money committed have2-16
been made.2-17
Sec. 3. Section 59 of chapter 473, Statutes of Nevada 1997, at page2-18
1785, is hereby amended to read as follows:2-19
Sec. 59. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state2-20
general fund to the department of education for the fiscal year 1998-2-21
1999 the sum of2-22
expenses, administrative and equipment expenses of an employee2-23
responsible for carrying out, administering, monitoring and2-24
evaluating the effectiveness of programs of remediation adopted by2-25
the department of education pursuant to section 10 of this act.2-26
2. Any remaining balance of the appropriation made by2-27
subsection 1 must not be committed for expenditure after June 30,2-28
1999, and reverts to the state general fund as soon as all payments2-29
of money committed have been made.2-30
Sec. 4. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.~
