THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. 1. The Department of Human Resources shall:1-2
(a) Conduct a study to determine the:1-3
(1) Feasibility of expanding eligibility for Medicaid pursuant to 421-4
U.S.C. § 1396a(a)(10)(C) to include persons who are medically needy;1-5
(2) Cost of carrying out such an expansion of Medicaid, and the1-6
personnel required to carry out the expansion;1-7
(3) Sources of revenue that may be available in this state to carry out1-8
such an expansion of Medicaid; and1-9
(4) Possibility of carrying out such an expansion of Medicaid on an1-10
incremental basis, including expanding Medicaid to include medically needy1-11
disabled persons as soon as possible;1-12
(b) Work in cooperation with the counties in this state and the Federal1-13
Government to determine the requirements for expanding Medicaid pursuant1-14
to 42 U.S.C. § 1396a(a)(10)(C) to include persons who are medically needy;1-15
and1-16
(c) On or before July 1, 2000, submit its findings and recommendations to1-17
the Legislative Committee on Health Care.1-18
2. The Legislative Committee on Health Care shall:2-1
(a) Review the findings and recommendations submitted by the Department2-2
of Human Resources;2-3
(b) Submit any appropriate recommendations as a result of that review to2-4
the Interim Finance Committee; and2-5
(c) Submit any recommendations for legislation to the 71st session of the2-6
Nevada Legislature.2-7
Sec. 2. This act becomes effective on July 1, 1999.~
