THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. 1. The Department of Personnel shall increase by one1-2
grade the level of compensation of all custody positions within the1-3
Department of Prisons on the pay plan for employees in the classified1-4
service of the state that is adopted pursuant to NRS 284.175 and is effective1-5
on January 1, 2001.1-6
2. As used in this section:1-7
(a) "Custody position" includes, without limitation, correctional officers1-8
and related supervisory positions.1-9
(b) "Grade" means the designation of a salary range for a classification1-10
of employees.1-11
Sec. 2. 1. On or before September 1, 2000, the Department of1-12
Personnel shall:1-13
(a) Conduct an occupational study of all custody positions and related1-14
positions within the Department of Prisons; and1-15
(b) Report the results of the study to the Director of the Department of1-16
Administration.2-1
2. As used in this section, "custody position" includes, without2-2
limitation, correctional officers and related supervisory positions.2-3
Sec. 3. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to2-4
the State Board of Examiners the sum of $1,220,235 to carry out the2-5
provisions of section 1 of this act.2-6
2. Any remaining balance of the appropriation made by subsection 12-7
must not be committed for expenditure after June 30, 2001, and reverts to2-8
the state general fund as soon as all payments of money committed have2-9
been made.2-10
Sec. 4. 1. This section and section 2 of this act become effective on2-11
July 1, 1999.2-12
2. Section 3 of this act becomes effective on July 1, 2000.2-13
3. Section 1 of this act becomes effective on January 1, 2001.~
