THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. NRS 3.018 is hereby amended to read as follows:1-2
3.018 For the eighth judicial district there must be1-3
judges,1-4
Sec. 2. The additional district judges required for the eighth judicial1-5
district pursuant to section 1 of this act must be selected at the general1-6
election held on November 7, 2000, and take office on January 1, 2001.1-7
The terms of these judges expire on January 6, 2003.1-8
Sec. 3. 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to1-9
the district judges’ salary account the sum of $199,500 for the salaries of1-10
the additional district judges required pursuant to section 1 of this act.1-11
2. Any remaining balance of the appropriation made by subsection 11-12
must not be committed for expenditure after June 30, 2001, and reverts to1-13
the state general fund as soon as all payments of money committed have1-14
been made.2-1
Sec. 4. The provisions of subsection 1 of NRS 354.599 do not apply to2-2
any additional expenses of a local government that are related to the2-3
provisions of this act.2-4
Sec. 5. 1. This section and sections 2 and 4 of this act become2-5
effective on October 1, 1999.2-6
2. Sections 1 and 3 of this act become effective on January 1, 2001.~
