AN ACT relating to concealed firearms; requiring the sheriff to notify the spouse of a person that the person has applied for the issuance or renewal of a permit to carry a concealed firearm or that his permit has been revoked or restored; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 202.3662 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 202.3662 1. Except as otherwise provided in this section:

1-3 (a) An application for a permit, and all information contained within that

1-4 application; and

1-5 (b) All information provided to a sheriff or obtained by a sheriff in the

1-6 course of his investigation of an applicant,

1-7 are confidential.

1-8 2. Any records regarding an applicant or permittee may be released to

1-9 a law enforcement agency for the purpose of conducting an investigation or

1-10 prosecution.

1-11 3. Statistical abstracts of data compiled by a sheriff regarding permits

1-12 applied for or issued pursuant to NRS 202.3653 to 202.369, inclusive,

1-13 including, but not limited to, the number of applications received and

1-14 permits issued, may be released to any person.

2-1 4. Except as otherwise provided in subsection 5, if a person who is

2-2 married:

2-3 (a) Applies for the issuance or renewal of a permit; or

2-4 (b) Has his permit revoked or restored,

2-5 not later than 2 days after the date the application is received or the

2-6 permit is revoked or restored by a sheriff, the sheriff shall send a notice

2-7 by certified mail, return receipt requested, to the spouse of that person at

2-8 the last known address of the spouse, indicating that the person has

2-9 applied for the issuance or renewal of a permit or that his permit has

2-10 been revoked or restored.

2-11 5. The provisions of subsection 4 do not apply to a person who is a

2-12 judge or a prosecuting attorney of an agency or political subdivision of

2-13 the United States or of this state.
