AN ACT relating to education; authorizing the association for interscholastic activities to include schools from other states in competitive leagues; requiring that all post-season competition for Nevada championship status be held within this state; authorizing the association to provide separate trophies or awards to the best teams in the competition that are located in this state; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 386.420 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 386.420 1. The county school district trustees may form a nonprofit

1-3 association composed of all of the school districts of the state for the

1-4 purposes of controlling, supervising and regulating all interscholastic

1-5 athletic events and other interscholastic events in the public schools.

1-6 2. The association may include a school or school district that is

1-7 located in another state for the purpose of including one or more out-of-

1-8 state schools in competitive leagues, but all post-season competition for

1-9 Nevada championship status must be held within the State of Nevada and

1-10 the association may provide separate trophies or awards to the teams

1-11 from schools located in the State of Nevada that perform the best in the

1-12 post-season competition.

2-1 3. This section does not prohibit a public school, which is authorized

2-2 by the association to do so, from joining an association formed for similar

2-3 purposes in another state.

2-4 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective on July 1, 1999.
