AN ACT relating to alternative livestock; removing the Rocky Mountain Elk from the definition of alternative livestock; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 501.003 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 501.003 As used in this Title, "alternative livestock" means the

1-3 following species, including subspecies, of the family Cervidae, if they are

1-4 born and reared in captivity and raised on private property to produce meat

1-5 or other by-products of animals or as breeding stock to produce alternative

1-6 livestock:

1-7 1. Fallow deer (Dama dama).

1-8 2. Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus).

1-9 [3. Rocky Mountain Elk (Cervus elaphus nelsoni) that have been

1-10 certified not to be hybrids with other cervid species or subspecies using the

1-11 most current and scientifically accepted genetic tests available.]
