AN ACT relating to the determination of population; revising the applicability of the information obtained pursuant to a national decennial census to determinations of population for certain purposes; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1-1 Section 1. NRS 0.050 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2 0.050 1. Except as otherwise expressly provided in a particular

1-3 statute or required by the context, "population" means the number of

1-4 people in a specified area as determined by the last preceding national

1-5 decennial census conducted by the Bureau of the Census of the United

1-6 States Department of Commerce pursuant to section 2 of article I of the

1-7 Constitution of the United States and reported by the Secretary of

1-8 Commerce to the governor pursuant to 13 U.S.C. § 141(c). The tabulations

1-9 of population reported by the Secretary of Commerce for a particular

1-10 decennial census date shall be deemed to apply for the purposes of this

1-11 section from July 1 of the calendar year immediately following that

1-12 decennial census date until June 30 of the calendar year immediately

1-13 following the next decennial census date.

2-1 2. As used in this section, "decennial census date" means the first

2-2 day of April of 1980 and every 10 years thereafter on which the decennial

2-3 census is taken pursuant to federal law.
