SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONMemorializing former Senator Jack Regan of

Las Vegas.

1-1 Whereas, The members of the Legislature of the State of Nevada note

1-2 with profound sorrow the recent death of Jack Regan on January 21, 1999;

1-3 and

1-4 Whereas, Jack Regan was born on February 2, 1934, in Chicago,

1-5 Illinois; and

1-6 Whereas, After graduating from Southern Illinois University with a

1-7 Bachelor’s Degree, Jack Regan served his country as a member of the

1-8 submarine service of the United States Navy; and

1-9 Whereas, Jack Regan served during three legislative sessions as an

1-10 Assemblyman from 1989 to 1993 and was elected to the Senate in 1994

1-11 where he served as Senate Minority Whip during both the 1995 and 1997

1-12 legislative sessions; and

1-13 Whereas, As a Nevada Legislator, Senator Regan was one of the major

1-14 forces behind the establishment of a veterans’ home in Southern Nevada;

1-15 and

1-16 Whereas, Senator Regan was active in the community as a founder

1-17 and board member of the Las Vegas affiliate of Habitat for Humanity,

1-18 founder and past President of the Jaycees Senior Citizens Mobile Home

1-19 Park, past board member and Vice President of the North Las Vegas

1-20 Chamber of Commerce, past President of the Trailblazers, past Treasurer

1-21 of the Las Vegas Kentucky Colonels, member of Oasis Masonic Lodge

1-22 #41, F & AM, past member of the Metropolitan Police Excess Force

2-1 Board, past Chairman of the National Trade, Travel and Tourism Task

2-2 Force of the American Legislative Exchange, past member of the Task

2-3 Force for Developmental Disabilities, past district Director and national

2-4 Treasurer of the National Council for Community Relations, and executive

2-5 board member and past Vice Chairman of the National Conference of State

2-6 Legislatures; and

2-7 Whereas, Senator Regan was also past President of the Thunderbird

2-8 Chapter of the American Air Force Association, member of the Civilian

2-9 Military Council of Nellis Air Force Base, honorary member of the 474th

2-10 Tactical Fighter Wing, and was an honorary United States Air Force

2-11 Thunderbird and an honorary United States Air Force Nighthawk (Stealth

2-12 Fighter); and

2-13 Whereas, Senator Regan was recognized by several organizations,

2-14 including being designated the "Lion of the Year" by the Las Vegas Host

2-15 Lions Club in 1978, receiving the Paragon Award from the National

2-16 Council of Community Relations in 1987 and being designated as the

2-17 "Legislator of the Year" in 1996 by the American Legislative Exchange;

2-18 and

2-19 Whereas, Senator Regan dedicated many tireless hours serving his

2-20 community and this state, and his kindness and generosity will be sorely

2-21 missed by his fellow legislators and the many friends he acquired

2-22 throughout his life; now, therefore, be it

2-23 Resolved by the Senate of the State of Nevada, the Assembly

2-24 Concurring, That the members of the 70th session of the Nevada

2-25 Legislature extend their heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences to

2-26 Jack Regan’s loving wife Rosemary Regan, to his sisters, Donna Carter of

2-27 Easton, Massachusetts, and Pella Cooling of Chatham, Massachusetts, and

2-28 to Jack Regan’s many friends whose lives were brightened by his

2-29 wonderful sense of humor and compassion for life; and be it further

2-30 Resolved, That with the passing of Senator Jack Regan, his fellow

2-31 legislators have lost a colleague who will long be remembered with the

2-32 highest regard and respect; and be it further

2-33 Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate prepare and transmit a

2-34 copy of this resolution to Rosemary Regan.
