SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION—Memorializing former Senator Jack Regan of
Las Vegas.

Whereas, The members of the Legislature of the State of Nevada note1-2
with profound sorrow the recent death of Jack Regan on January 21, 1999;1-3
and1-4
Whereas, Jack Regan was born on February 2, 1934, in Chicago,1-5
Illinois; and1-6
Whereas, After graduating from Southern Illinois University with a1-7
Bachelor’s Degree, Jack Regan served his country as a member of the1-8
submarine service of the United States Navy; and1-9
Whereas, Jack Regan served during three legislative sessions as an1-10
Assemblyman from 1989 to 1993 and was elected to the Senate in 19941-11
where he served as Senate Minority Whip during both the 1995 and 19971-12
legislative sessions; and1-13
Whereas, As a Nevada Legislator, Senator Regan was one of the major1-14
forces behind the establishment of a veterans’ home in Southern Nevada;1-15
and1-16
Whereas, Senator Regan was active in the community as a founder1-17
and board member of the Las Vegas affiliate of Habitat for Humanity,1-18
founder and past President of the Jaycees Senior Citizens Mobile Home1-19
Park, past board member and Vice President of the North Las Vegas1-20
Chamber of Commerce, past President of the Trailblazers, past Treasurer1-21
of the Las Vegas Kentucky Colonels, member of Oasis Masonic Lodge1-22
#41, F & AM, past member of the Metropolitan Police Excess Force2-1
Board, past Chairman of the National Trade, Travel and Tourism Task2-2
Force of the American Legislative Exchange, past member of the Task2-3
Force for Developmental Disabilities, past district Director and national2-4
Treasurer of the National Council for Community Relations, and executive2-5
board member and past Vice Chairman of the National Conference of State2-6
Legislatures; and2-7
Whereas, Senator Regan was also past President of the Thunderbird2-8
Chapter of the American Air Force Association, member of the Civilian2-9
Military Council of Nellis Air Force Base, honorary member of the 474th2-10
Tactical Fighter Wing, and was an honorary United States Air Force2-11
Thunderbird and an honorary United States Air Force Nighthawk (Stealth2-12
Fighter); and2-13
Whereas, Senator Regan was recognized by several organizations,2-14
including being designated the "Lion of the Year" by the Las Vegas Host2-15
Lions Club in 1978, receiving the Paragon Award from the National2-16
Council of Community Relations in 1987 and being designated as the2-17
"Legislator of the Year" in 1996 by the American Legislative Exchange;2-18
and2-19
Whereas, Senator Regan dedicated many tireless hours serving his2-20
community and this state, and his kindness and generosity will be sorely2-21
missed by his fellow legislators and the many friends he acquired2-22
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it2-23
Resolved by the Senate of the State of Nevada, the Assembly2-24
Concurring, That the members of the 70th session of the Nevada2-25
Legislature extend their heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences to2-26
Jack Regan’s loving wife Rosemary Regan, to his sisters, Donna Carter of2-27
Easton, Massachusetts, and Pella Cooling of Chatham, Massachusetts, and2-28
to Jack Regan’s many friends whose lives were brightened by his2-29
wonderful sense of humor and compassion for life; and be it further2-30
Resolved, That with the passing of Senator Jack Regan, his fellow2-31
legislators have lost a colleague who will long be remembered with the2-32
highest regard and respect; and be it further2-33
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate prepare and transmit a2-34
copy of this resolution to Rosemary Regan.~
