SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONDirecting the Legislative Commission to

conduct an interim study of the manner of determining the prospective cost to the state of

legislative measures that propose increases in criminal penalties that will result

in longer prison sentences.

1-1 Whereas, The Legislature requires accurate information to efficiently

1-2 balance the need to incarcerate persons who commit serious crimes in this

1-3 state with the necessity of responsibly funding the prison facilities required

1-4 to meet the needs of this state; and

1-5 Whereas, A study of and report on the manner of determining the

1-6 prospective cost to the state of legislative measures which propose

1-7 increases in criminal penalties that will result in longer prison sentences

1-8 would provide a substantial benefit to this Legislature in ensuring the

1-9 accuracy of the information considered at the time that crucial legislative

1-10 decisions are made; now, therefore, be it

1-11 Resolved by the Senate of the State of Nevada, the Assembly

1-12 Concurring, That the Legislative Commission is hereby directed to

1-13 appoint a subcommittee to conduct an interim study of the manner of

1-14 determining the prospective cost to the state of legislative measures that

1-15 propose increases in criminal penalties that will result in longer prison

1-16 sentences; and be it further

1-17 Resolved, That no action may be taken by the subcommittee on

1-18 recommended legislation unless it receives a majority vote of the Senators

1-19 on the subcommittee and a majority of the Assemblymen on the

1-20 subcommittee; and be it further

2-1 Resolved, That the Legislative Commission submit a report of the

2-2 results of the study and any recommended legislation to the 71st session of

2-3 the Nevada Legislature.
